Hoshi Go is free. If something looks wrong, or you have a rules question, write to us.

Getting started

1. Start a game. Tap Play, choose the board size, play against the bot or pass-and-play, pick your colour and set a handicap if you want one.
2. Learn the rules. Tap Learn to play for five short lessons, with capture puzzles you solve on the board.
3. Finish and score. When both players pass, tap the dead stones to mark them, then confirm to see the score.

Questions

Does it need the internet?

No. The app never connects to the internet, so it works in airplane mode.

Which rules does it use?

Chinese area scoring with positional superko. Komi is 7.5, or 0.5 when handicap stones are used.

Can I make the bot stronger?

Not yet. It is a beginner bot on purpose. A stronger bot is on the list for a future version.
