Sapere

Trivia that teaches

Every answer comes with an explanation, a picture and the source it was checked against.

Sapere is a trivia game for people who want to learn something real: history, geography, the sciences, mathematics, philosophy, the arts and technology. No gossip and no celebrity news.

The name comes from sapere aude, "dare to know", the motto Kant gave the Enlightenment.

How a question gets into the app

A trivia app is only as good as its facts. Each question goes through the same steps before it ships.

  1. Written against a source

Each question is written from a named source, and the claim it tests is recorded with it.

  2. Checked again, independently

A second checker who did not write the question opens the source and tests the answer, every wrong option, and every number, date and name in the explanation. Each question is passed, fixed or dropped.

  3. Illustrated with a licensed image

Each image comes from Wikimedia Commons under a public domain, CC BY or CC BY-SA licence, and the build refuses any image whose licence does not match.

  4. Bundled into the app

Questions, explanations, sources and images are packed inside the app, so nothing is fetched while you play.
